Share your Experiences

This message board has been created for Captains of sail training vessels to leave feedback about experiences whilst in port.

If you have had a particularly good, or indeed a poor experience and would like to let other vessels know about it, please post your comments below.  It would also be useful to know whether any of the port facilities or services were discounted, or even free of charge, for sail training vessels.

Once you have posted your comment, please give the port a rating out of 5, with 1 being a poor experience and 5 being exceptional good.

If you are already a registered site member then please login to leave your comments, if not please register now.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Next on our plan was to visit Madeira where we have a longstanding contact with Mr. Pedro Calado (from the Funchal 500 organisation - pedro.calado@cm-funchal.pt ). He is a high official from the municipality in Funchal/Madeira and he can contact the port to arrange a berth. After his confirmation, we contacted a shipping agent at www.funchalmaritima.pt Mr Nuno Rebolo who could arrange the berthing details.
Regretfully, due to adverse wind conditions, we had to cancel our visit. But from the past we remember a welcome visit to Funchal with low costs.

Next year we will try again.

EUROPA had a great, albeit short visit to Vigo, ES. With many thanks to Celso González who introduced us to a shipping agent called Mr. Iñaki Sanchez ( vigo@estanislaoduran.com ) from E. Duran Shipping P&I Services, S.L.. They offered a very friendly agency fee of eur 250.
With a statement from our side we received a berthing fee exemption.
Regretfully, the only berths available were all behind fences. We did manage however, to have open ship, with a free guard arranged by the agent/terminal or so. Thus allowing visitors from Vigo to have a look on board.

If the opportunity arrises, we will visit Vigo again.

I suggest that you contact our contact is Celso Gonzarlez (celsogonz@gmail.com). Please let me know how you get on. Fair winds Paul (Bishop)
