Thousands turn out for crew parade

May 22, 2010

Thousands of visitors turned up in Varna late this afternoon for the Historical Seas Tall Ships Regatta Crew Parade.

A route, which took the crew fleet two and a half miles through the City of Varna, gave the visitors a chance to line the streets and watch the carnival pass by. The late afternoon sun blazing down on this historical city lifted the already buzzing atmosphere as the procession marched its way to Anton Novak Square.

The amazing display of national costume and traditional dance from the 13 different nations made it difficult to judge the best crew prize, but it was the ‘green team’ Alexander Von Humboltd from Germany who caught the eye and clinched the award.

In carnival spirit, crews then headed to the Crew Party at the Festival and Congress Centre to enjoy an evening of fun and partying.

Tomorrow, the penultimate day here in Varna, crews will have the chance to recover from their busy schedule over the last few days, while captains head to the Captains’ Briefing to find out details about the Parade of Sail and Race 2 to Istanbul, which starts on Monday.
