July 27, 2015

The Foundation of

Environmental Education and Sail Training International established the Blue

Flag scheme for Tall Ships a few years ago.

Its aim is to help protect our marine environment by setting standards

for how the Tall Ships fleet behaves while at sea and in port.

The Tall Ships

Races fleet is diverse in terms of size and type of vessels – but all vessels

have a direct responsibility to care for our planet as ambassadors for

sustainability.  All vessels in the fleet

registered by the Blue Flag scheme are assessed on how well they are continuing

to perform environmentally and this award goes to a vessel which is not only

designed to reduce its  impact to our

environment, at sea and ashore; it also has a well established environmental

culture and routines on board.
