The Fleet Leave St Malo For Race 1

July 8, 2012

The Parade of Sail from St Malo is taking place throughout today as Tall Ships pass through the lock towards the start of Race 1 which will now commence on Tuesday 10th July.

Several Class A vessels have already left St Malo with visitors waving them goodbye, including Dar Mlodziezy, Pelican of London, Lord Nelson, Georg Stage and Mir.

Other vessels to have passed through the lock include Tomidi, Hebe III, Zvezda, Etoile Polaire and last year’s overall winner Jolie Brise. The rest of the fleet will say farewell to St Malo this evening.

The port has definitely been enjoyed by trainees and crew who now look forward to what will hopefully be a competitive race to Lisbon.

Experienced sailing journalists were earlier tipping Polish vessel Dar Mlodziezy to win Class A with Spaniel thought very highly of in Class C. According to some, it is very difficult to predict which should hopefully create an exciting start to the summer series.

The Tall Ships Races 2012, Presented by Szczecin and organised by Sail Training International is taking place in the following host ports:

St Malo – Thursday 5 to Sunday 8 July (race start Monday 9 July)

Lisbon – Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 July

Cadiz – Thursday 26 to Sunday 29 July

A Coruí±a – Friday 10 to Monday 13 August

Dublin – Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 August
