Ships pass through the Bosporus, Istanbul

May 18, 2010

The Historical Seas Tall Ships Regatta fleet including some of the largest in the world, such as the 94m Russian sail training vessel Mir, and the Polish ship Dar Mlodziezy, passed through Istanbul under the Bosphorus Bridge this morning on their 17-mile passage to the Black Sea, where the second leg of race one begins.

Overnight rain cleared and the sun popped its head through the clouds just as the ships began their convoy. A Turkish frigate led the parade, with Bodrum, Turkey the first of the fleet, followed by the Big Three – Mir, Dar Mlodziezy, and Tenacious, UK – leading the remainder of the fleet.
