Commanding Officer Angela Morris, arrived in Waterford yesterday with a crew of 24 sea cadets aged 16-21 who are competing to win the first leg of The Tall Ships Races 2011 on T S Royalist.
Angela, 40, who lives in Devon, is the only female captain in the first leg of the race and is determined not to be beaten by her male peers.
Angela said: “Royalist is a smaller Class A but we are definitely out to win and will give it our best shot to be as competitive as possible. We are all up for the challenge and can’t wait for the race to start on Sunday but intend on enjoying Waterford before then! Everyone is working well together and really starting to bond as a team who are prepared to face the fantastic experience ahead.”
Out of the 24 cadets, 22 are first timers, all of whom are about to set-off on a life changing experience to Greenock. T S Royalist has 33 crew in total and is usually based in Gosport.
