Some
80,000 people visited the port yesterday, with many more expected today,
especially given the glorious weather.
All
29 vessels are now in port and all race declaration forms have been handed in
and assessed, which means that results for Race One have now been finalised. Additionally all vessels have passed their
safety inspections so preparations for Race Two are well underway, with some crew changes taking place today.
Many
crew members are currently competing in a swimming competition in the near-by
outdoor pool. Prizes for this will be
awarded this afternoon during the prize giving ceremony where the prizes for Race One will also be presented.
Other trainees are enjoying the cultural sightseeing
tours to the cathedral and local exhibitions.
This
afternoon the traditional Crew Parade will take place from 1600hrs along the
river to the stage in front of the Suomen Joutsen museum ship where the prize
giving will take place at 1630hrs.
The
Culture 2011 Tall Ships Race is organised by Sail Training International.
