Fleet Arrives in Lavrion

June 4, 2010

The fleet of the Historical Seas Tall Ships Regatta arrived in Lavrion today under blue skies and soaring temperatures.

Yesterday afternoon, Dar Mlodziezy, Mir, Hansa and Mythos arrived in port while overnight a number of the Class C and D vessels arrived in Lavrion. This morning the rest of the fleet arrived with Shabab Oman, Kaliakra, Dewaruci, Tenacious and Alexander von Humboldt all being given a warm welcome.

Dar Mlodziezy has had to make an early departure due to a requirement to be in her home port of Gdynia in 18 days time. The crew said their sad farewells to friends made over the series and she slipped and departed in the early afternoon.

For the rest of the fleet, today is a time for rest and stocking up on supplies before the festivities get into full swing. An opening ceremony will take place this evening at 1930 local, followed by the captains’ dinner, which is being held at the Lavrion Technological and Cultural Park.
