First ships arrive into Kristiansand

July 28, 2010

Ships are arriving into Kristiansand in readiness for the festival over the next four days and the second leg of the Tall Ships Race.

Light rain has not stopped many people coming down to the quaysides to see the early arrivals, which include the two Tall Ships Youth Trust Bermudan Cutters, Challenger 2 and Challenger 4 (UK), Dewaruci (Indonesia), Brabander (Lithuania), Shabab Oman (Oman), Stad Amsterdam (Netherlands), Stavros S Niarchos (UK),  Zenobe Gramme (Belgium), Dasher (UK) and Trinovante (UK) (pic).

The volunteer Liaison Officers are ready to greet their allocated ships and the organising team are finalising preparations for the various events, crew activities and sports that will take place over the next four days.

Local ship Sorlandet, who came third in the first leg of the race, is amongst those approaching Kristiansand and is expected to arrive on Wednesday morning.  All ships are expected to be in port by 1200 hrs midday on Thursday 29th July.
