Szczecin, Poland

The port city of Szczecin, Poland, is the Presenting Sponsor of The Tall Ships Races for an initial period from 2010 through 2014. The sponsorship provides Sail Training International, organisers of The Tall Ships Races, with €1.4million over the period of the agreement.

Szczecin (pronounced Stettin) hosted Sail Training International’s Annual Conference in 2006 and was a highly successful host port for The Tall Ships Races in 2007. The city’s development plans include a massive redevelopment of its docks and extensive waterfront, the construction of a large new marina and sailing school, an annual maritime festival, and a ‘friendly port’ programme offering free berthing and other services at any time for visiting sail training vessels. It has created a new organisation, ‘Sail Szczecin’, to promote and implement many of these plans.

“Szczecin’s principal assets are its maritime interests and its young people,” says Piotr Krzystek, President of the City of Szczecin. “Sponsorship of The Tall Ships Races will help to promote these interests internationally and contribute to Sail Training International’s work promoting sail training for young people.”
