When the Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta comes to Bermuda the old charm of Britain, the island soul of the Caribbean and the innovative energy of catamaran racing will synergize magically.
Bermuda is a regular participant in Tall Ships events, having hosted such regattas five times before. However, in June 2017 the Tall Ships visit will be like none other as the island is redefined as the sailing capital of the Atlantic. At that time Bermuda will also be hosting the 35th America’s Cup, presented by Louis Vuitton.
The international sailing spectacle will be in full swing in early June of 2017. Tall Ships crews will be joined by teams and their fans from the United States, Great Britain, New Zealand, Japan and France, to enjoy an unprecedented period of exceptional sailing.
The fleet of the Rendez-vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta will be docked mostly in Hamilton, the country’s capital and hub of international financial services business. When not in Hamilton, the Tall Ships will be in historic St. George’s – the island’s first capital and where the British settled in 1609 after a wreck on the way to Jamestown, Virginia.
The island is very proud of its warm turquoise sea, beautiful beaches, safe harbours and some of the best swimming, sailing and on-the-water experiences to be found anywhere on the planet. Bermuda also boasts the most northern coral reefs in the world and although north of the Tropic of Cancer, the climate is subtropical because of the influence of the Gulf Stream. The hospitality of its 64,000 people is equally as warm and always a memorable part of any visitor’s experience.
