Turku, Finland

Turku will be the European Capital of Culture in 2011 together with Tallinn.  The Capital of Culture programme is the EU's most significant culturaly initiative with great international awareness.  As the Capital of Culture, Turku has the chance to gain an unparalleled international presence in Europe and The Culture 2011 Tall Ships Regatta will be one of the main events.

After sucessfully organising The Tall Ships Races in 1996, 2003 and 2009, Turku can build on its experience to offer exceptional services for participating vessels and crews.

Capital of Culture Turku is more than one year.  It is a process as a result of which in 2016 Turku will be a pioneer, creative centre of co-operation on the Baltic Sea and a provider and promoter of art and science.

Thousands of different people from Turku and from all over Finland will participate in the implementation of the Capital of Culture. In addition to local and regional participants, Turku 2011 will conduct extensive national and international co-operation especially in the Baltic Sea region.

Summer in the Capital of Culture 2011 will be full of attractions and The Culture 2011 Tall Ships Regatta weekend is one of the top weekends in the official programme including a massive open air circus, ancient fire nights in the Turku Archipelago and much more.
