For many mariners, sailing over the top of Britain will be too good an opportunity to miss! Once you arrive in Shetland, crews will be welcomed by Shetlands' hospitality, music, and a wealth of maritime heritage making Lerwick a first-class port to visit. Along the buzzing waterfront, the Tall Ships will be in the heart of the action. Lerwick is hoping that their social programme will offer a chance to view the rugged beauty of the islands, try out adventure and sporting activities, or simply sit back and relax on the quayside whilst listening to the sounds of our talented local musicians. 

Lerwick last hosted The Tall Ships Races in 1999, and aims to offer the same hospitality and community involvement in the celebrations which they hope will set them apart from larger Host Ports. Many Captains’ still treasure fond memories of their time in Lerwick, as do the locals who look forward to welcoming new and old friends back to our shores. 

Lerwick also aims to attract lots of young people to join the Tall Ships and enjoy the fun of sail training. Having established Sail Training Shetland as their own sail training organisation, they aim to build a legacy for sail training in the port in years to come. Whilst they may be a small host port, Lerwick is organising excellent crew transfer links to the mainland of Scotland and Norway by air and ship and will be offering a comprehensive discounted travel scheme for crew, with free coach transfers from Lerwick to Sumburgh Airport.
